This blog was sparked by Sarah1's question, Do you respond to everyone? It was the weirdest experience that I've ever had, and caused me to rethink the etiquette of online dating.
What's your weirdest online experience?
I was sent an email by a woman with a nonpicture profile. I don't remember what all it said, but it was very short and had the gist that "We have so much in common!" Well, in those days, I was of the opinion that someone who is polite, responds to a message. So I wrote back, asking "What do we have in common."
We exchanged phone numbers and I called her. To this day, that was the weirdest telephone conversation that I have ever had.
She asked me if I had any kids? My profile stated I had none. I said no. She asked if I had any kids on the way? I said no. We talked a little more, and then she asked if I found fat people disgusting? This question really caught me flat footed. Now, I wasn't severely obese, but I did have a few extra pounds hanging around my gut, and my picture was really me. Dead air hung between us before I finally choked out, how fat are you talking about?
Suffice it to say, this woman and I never went out on a date. I never did get a picture from her, so I don't know how fat she really was, but apparently she did have size issues.
This was the one that had me reevaluate my concept of online etiquette.
1st red flag No Picture
2nd red flag We have a lot in common, but didn't list anything that we had in common
3rd red flag Still didn't give me a pic before we talked on the phone, I don't remember what her excuse was.
After her, I included in my profile: While I'm not a Shallow Hal, and inner beauty means a lot more to me, physical attraction is a necessity. She'll need to find me as attractive as I find her.
She's also the one who got me to decided that if it's obvious you haven't read my profile, then you don't deserve more than a wink back from me.

I met this guy on Single something web site... he was weird as ever! He said he was unemployed but worked for himself by counseling others and hypono therapy? He asked if he could try it on me, i said NO! and he began to talk about death and killing... he asked how tall i was and started using sentences with my ht being his and his ht being mine and making weird sounds... i told him i had to let my dog in and he said...... what was that sound, was it 'stabbing' noises! i bacame so frightened i couldnt wait to hang up the phone... he was super weird and supposedly lives in Arlington texas... CREEPY AS EVER!
Quoting: Originally posted by MODiva My weirdest online experience involved a man named Dale who was an engineer. I found it really strange that he wanted to proceed with a relationship quickly and move to my town (St. Louis). Needless to say, the whole thing blew up (and I am glad it did) so that I could truly see how wierd he was and learn that I didn't need that type of stress in my life. There's another wierd one that I will have to elaborate on at another time.

exb3, that is definitely weird! Thanks for sharing.
I've been out of touch because the idiots cut my service when I told them I needed new phone service at the house that we just bought. Unfortunately, they don't provide service to where I've moved, so I'm with Clearwire now.

If you think that was weird then let me tell you about how a woman from Italy i met online ended up living with me for 3 weeks. That was the closest I have ever been to being in the audience of the Jerry Springer Show and all in my apartment. Maybe after the holidays when I have more time I will post it here.

Quoting: Originally posted by exb3 I used to chat with a woman in Europe. We were getting very close until one day I was talking to her on cam. While we were talking she got another call. She excused herself and got up from the cam and I could hear her talking to someone in English, which was a second language to her. I could hear her laughing and telling this person how much she loved him and had missed him while she had been away on vacation. The exact words she had just been saying to me. I was freaked out. When she hung up and returned to the cam I asked who she had been talking to and she told me she had been talking to her friend on death row in America. She belonged to a European anti-death penalty group that befriended men on death row in America by being pen pals, buying them gifts, and accepting their collect phone calls. Later I found out she had even made several trips to the US to visit men on death row. She had told me about this guy before but had told me that she was going to stop talking to him because he was saying disturbing things. Now I discovered that not only was she still accepting his collect calls but also telling him she loved and missed him. I was shocked. My reaction upset her. She said she did not mean she loved him romantically but as a friend. I believed her but was still shocked by it. She told me he belonged to a gang and had killed several people in drug related crimes. I went online and found some newspaper articles about him. He had been in prison serving several life sentences when DNA evidenced convicted him of the rape and murder of an immigrant woman. She had been on her way to an ESOL class when she was kidnapped, beaten, raped and stuffed in the trunk of her car while still alive. The car was set on fire and she died inside the trunk. One newspaper account said she was beaten so badly her ear had been torn off. The guy on death row had just had an argument with his girlfriend and was mad and took his anger out on this woman, a total stranger. He was already in jail for life so when he was convicted of her murder he was given the death penalty. I was shocked that my friend in Europe could be so friendly with such a person and she was disappointed that I would feel as I did. She distanced herself from me after that and things were never the same. We had been making plans for her to come visit me. She instead decided to go visit the man on death row. That fell apart after he tried to get her to launder some money and made threats against her. He also told her how he was planning to attack another prisoner so he would be put in another part of the prison to be closer to his cousin. I remained friendly with this woman and we would chat occasionally. Sometime later I told her about someone I had met online from another European country who also was in an anti death penalty organization. It turned out she knew this person. Not only did she know her but they had a falling out over some guy on death row. She told me this woman I was getting friendly with was married. Not only was she married the man she married she had met on death row. The first woman even sent me a wedding picture of the second woman. Her husband was behind a glass wall and she was wearing the same dress she was wearing in her online profile.
