I think a 'social' smoker is someone who can light up or not without any side effects.

A 'regular' smoker is an addict who needs that fix every 20 minutes or so and can't even listen to what you are saying because there is a voice in their head saying 'cigarette, cigarette, when can I get one, will she shut up, I need a cigarettes NOW!

They also insist on driving so they can smoke in their car - rolling the windows down and holding the cigarette out the window of course so it doesn't 'bother' you.

They do not go to restaurants or bars where there is no smoking and move out of states where public smoking is banned.

They need a fix first thing in the morning as they have not had one for many hours - sucking down 3 or 4 in a row before they can feel 'normal'.

Telltale signs may be yellow discoloration on the tips of the fingers and/or yellow teeth. Strong smell of Lysol when you return home. Usually hacking in the morning - coughing up globs of gook that you have to listen to while you eat your breakfast.

I'm a smoker, but I don't smoke if there are non smokers or kids around. If I'm at home, I dont subject people to my smoke, even though its my place. That I think is a socially AWARE smoker.
And lets face it, we smokers are to blame for the anti-smoking witchhunt. For years, we ignored nonsmokers in restaurants, lit up around their kids, and in general just plain made a pain in the a-- of our habit. We did'nt control ourselves, so now the law does it for us.
We brought it on ourselves.
